Gail Hahne’s phone rings — a barking dog is the ringtone — and she snaps it up and gives directions to her home. Within a few minutes, she meets two girls as they pull into her driveway. Peeking through the windows of the car, Hahne sees what they promised to bring.
PIERRE — Rusty Foster already sold some of his cows and may have to sell more because of the yearlong drought that hit much of the state, but recent rains have helped lift his spirits and those of his neighbors in northwestern South Dakota’s Perkins County.

The Mitchell High School track team has its sights set on bringing home some hardware this weekend. The Kernels compete today and Saturday at the Class AA track and field state meet, with each of their athletes hoping to be crowned the state’s best.

Seven Mitchell Christian athletes are competing at their first state track and field meet today.

The Corsica/Stickney Jags remained unbeaten Thursday, defeating the Mitchell Mad Dogs 3-1 at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
